Life-Nurturing Route

Iyo Kacaw

The Xucuogang Wetland serves as an important stopover for migratory birds in northern Taiwan. In autumn and winter, tens of thousands of shorebirds of the Scolopacidae family, Black-faced Spoonbills, Great Egrets, and Saunders’s Gull often gather to forage. In summer, migratory birds such as Little Terns breed here, shaping a rich ecological landscape of seasonal change and species succession.

Migration is the long-distance journey of birds driven by seasonal change. They accompany and encourage one another in flight, moving forward to nurture life. Taiwan, situated along the East Asia-Australia migratory route, serves as an important stopover for migratory birds to replenish and rest.

The work highlights the Xucuogang Wetland as an important stopover for migratory birds before they set out on their next journey. Through the imagery of flight across the wetland, the bamboo structure traces the form of a great bird stretching its wings, poised to take off. At the top are lifeforms co-created by the public, which are both seedlings of wetland plants and like the migratory birds temporarily resting here, symbols of life gathering energy for the next journey. Extending upward, the work conveys a positive force of hope, continuity, and an embrace of the future.
