Reimagining our Reefy Life

SenseSite Studio:Lin Yu-Hsiang

The algal reef ecosystem has long nurtured and sustained this coastal landscape, shaping not only the natural environment but also the collective memories and daily lives of the local community. As time passes, however, many of these memories and connections have gradually faded alongside the changing environment. This project seeks to reconnect people with the ecological and cultural significance of the algal reefs by tracing fragments of memory, stories, textures, and impressions associated with the coast.

Through contemporary creative practices and the reinterpretation of materials, the work transforms past experiences into new forms of artistic expression embedded within everyday life. By combining participatory methods, environmental observation, and local engagement, the project invites residents to become active collaborators in the creative process rather than passive audiences. Together, artists and community members co-create new narratives and shared experiences rooted in the unique identity of the place.

The project not only responds to the ecological value of the algal reef landscape, but also emphasizes the importance of collective memory, intergenerational dialogue, and cultural continuity. Through artistic intervention and community participation, it aims to reawaken emotional connections between people, landscape, and history, allowing local memories to once again emerge, evolve, and live within the present.
