The Pantheon of the villagers
Chien-Ming Lu
The core of this public art collaboration between the Heping community and the artist lies in discussing the necessity of co-prosperity between agricultural/forestry culture and the tech industry amidst technological and economic development. Community residents and the art team trekked through secondary forests on fallow farmland to explore the significance and possibilities of contemporary lowland afforestation for community stability.
By thinning and managing these secondary forests, timber was harvested and combined with small pieces of driftwood collected from the shore to create this community art piece. On the wall beside the small plaza of the local temple, a "shrine-like" installation was constructed to serve as a future gathering place for residents to converse. Furthermore, the logging and refinement process transformed multiple wooded areas within the community, establishing a living environment where the public and nature can thrive together in the future.
