Fruition of Legacy

Yang-Cheng Cheng, Wei-Ying Liu, Hung-Cheng Chiu

The work employs the powerful medium of iron sculpture art to vividly recreate the labor scene of “beach seine.” The dynamic postures of people pulling the ropes together embody the collective will of early fishing villages, struggling with nature, working in unity, and sharing the harvest. The work’s lines are smooth and powerful. The leaping school of fish in the foreground not only symbolizes an abundant harvest but also creates strong visual tension against the carriers’ backward-leaning postures, turning the fleeting moment of collaboration into an eternal sculpture.
The work’s title not only represents connection and legacy but also symbolizes the sweet fruit of protecting local culture. The iron sculpture embodies the labor scene of the “beach seine fishermen,” echoing the nearby stone weirs and intertwining with the real landscape. Viewers standing on the shore, with sea wind brushing their faces and waves resounding, seem to hear the horns and shouts of beach seine practice, deeply sensing the residents’ dedication to preserving the ecology of stone weirs and marine culture. This sculpture is not only an extension of the landscape but also a spiritual landmark of generations’ shared and enduring commitment to protecting their hometown culture.
