The Ark of Miracles

Wen-Chih, Wang、Tsung-Tu Hsieh

We use bamboo as the structural backbone to construct a symbol that upholds the spirit of Taiwan. Bamboo embodies extraordinary resilience and reflects the enduring character of the Hakka “Sea Hakka” communities. It becomes the fulcrum of a miracle — slender yet immensely strong — carrying the weight of centuries of history through sheer persistence.
The Meaning of the Place
A meeting point between sea and land.
Surrounded by the ocean, Taiwan has always connected with the world through the sea. Yongan Fishing Harbor is the only fishing harbor in Taiwan rooted in a Hakka coastal settlement — the homeland of the “Sea Hakka.” Here, bamboo from the mountains is used to uphold a ship that symbolizes the ocean, representing the coexistence and interdependence of mountain and sea.
On this island embraced by water, we raise the hope of the sea with the resilience of the mountains. At Taiwan’s only Sea Hakka harbor, Ark of Miracles becomes a symbolic departure point from which Taiwan reaches toward the world.
A Monument Dedicated to Everyone
Miracles have never come from enormity.
They emerge from the solidarity, kindness, and resilience of Taiwanese people.
Ark of Miracles is a monument dedicated to all the people of Taiwan — a steadfast hope rooted between land and sea.
