The inspiration for this work weaves together the legends of the Eastern Dragon, the ephemeral essence of the site, and Taiwan's energy geography. Upon his first visit to the Xinwu Coastal Botanical Garden, the artist was struck by the singular resonance of the lush vegetation. The sight of a swarm of dragonflies passing overhead then gave rise to the core concept of the "Dragonfly-Dragon": the dragon serves as a vessel for the forces of nature, while the dragonfly imbues it with the grace of weightless flight.
Drawing from Chinese, Taiwanese, and Japanese mythology, where the dragon's nine offspring each take a distinct form—some bearing heavy shells upon their backs, others surging through the waters—the artist positions this work as a "Water Dragon" that echoes the seismic energy of the island: a singular Dragon of Formosa. The sculpture is both an upwelling of earth currents and a "precise acupuncture needle" placed upon the energy meridian of the site, harmonizing the vibrations between the vegetation, the coast, and the visitors who encounter it. As viewers walk around the piece, they may approach it through different lenses—the Formosan Dragon, the Water Dragon, the Dragonfly—each discovering their own vision of the dragon and finding in this work a spiritual anchor within the botanical landscape.
