Luminous Tides

Ling-Li Tseng、Serendipity Studio

Centered on the ecological texture of Taoyuan’s "Pearl Coastline," Luminous Tides utilizes domestically sourced timber and reversible construction methods to create a landscape response in harmony with its site. Through parametric design, the installation translates environmental forces—wind direction, tidal shifts, and topographical rhythms—into a non-linear vocabulary of light, shadow, and structure. As Yong'an Fishing Harbor represents a complex landscape where daily life, production, and spiritual faith intertwine, its essence fluctuates between the natural and the man-made.

The work integrates into this harbor rhythm with a gentle, restrained posture, unfolding like a silent companion to delineate the fluid layers of the coast and intertidal zones. It captures the ocean’s organic pulse, weaving together "man-made nature" and "celestial nature." By doing so, the project establishes a new mode of interaction between humanity and a coastline that is permanently in flux. Through the use of recyclable materials and adaptable tectonics, the work allows material, environment, and time to collectively participate in a landscape that is continuously becoming, reflecting a sustainable commitment to the ever-changing coastal identity.

Ling-Li Tseng & Serendipity Studio

After eight years of practicing and living in the United States and the United Kingdom, Ling-Li Tseng returned to her homeland to dedicate herself to design education and creative practice. She currently serves as an Associate Professor at the Institute of Architecture, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU), where she bridges academic research with spatial experimentation.

In 2016, the collaborative platform Serendipity Studio was initiated through participation in the Taipei Fine Arts Museum’s X-Site project. The studio operates on the philosophy that the design process is an embodiment of "serendipity"—an intentional search for creative opportunities within unpredictable accidents and unexpected encounters. Formally established in Taiwan, the studio focuses on artistic creation and spatial curation, maintaining a "cloud-based," agile organizational structure. This flexibility allows the studio to foster cross-disciplinary synergy, collaborating with diverse creators to spark innovative, contemporary works. By navigating the boundaries between the planned and the coincidental, Serendipity Studio continues to challenge the conventional perceptions of space, material, and site-specific narrative.
