Fluid Boundaries

Chin-Hsiang Hu X Peppercorns Interactive Media Art

Utilizing "fishing nets" and "ocean waves" as its primary visual lexicon, this work transforms a semi-outdoor artificial structure into a digital ocean narrated through light. As the northern gateway to Taoyuan’s Pearl Coast, Zhuwei Harbor currently stands at a critical junction, facing the immense pressures of Aeropolis development and industrial expansion. Within this liminal space strained by human intervention, the project seeks to construct a "New Nature" through a synthesis of visuals, space, and sound. It invites viewers to rediscover the rhythms of the sea amidst the interplay of light and shadow, mending the relationship between humanity and the ocean that has been estranged by urbanization.

The work’s matrix-like net structure is a contemporary translation of "Kian-koo" (beach seining), a traditional local fishing practice. Historically, the net was a tool for extracting resources; today, this "Net of Light" serves as a vessel for maritime memory. Fluid light and generative imagery simulate the ebb and flow of tides and the shimmering surface of the sea. By projecting dynamic shadows onto the plaza floor, the installation invites the public to wander beneath a virtual water surface. This intervention reclaims a functional public shelter, transforming it into a sensory sanctuary that triggers local empathy and environmental reflection.
