A Bigger Lounger

Brick serves as the central material of this work, responding to the traces of human accumulation and the passage of time. Red brick is a common architectural vocabulary of the coastal immigrant settlements of Taoyuan, carrying memories of homes, compound walls, and everyday life. Following the existing steps and platform structures of the coastal embankment, the work transforms red brick into a form of reclining chairs extending toward the sea — a warm, band-like structure that settles over concrete, its flow oriented toward the water. This transformation is not a purely formal operation; rather, it introduces a local architectural language into an engineered coastline, generating spatial dialogue. The embankment — originally a symbol of separation and protection — is here recast as an interface for dwelling and perception. The contrast between red brick and concrete repairs a visual and psychological rupture, allowing people to once again face the intertidal zone and wetlands, rebuilding their relationship with the sea in the space between shelter and openness.

office aaa investigates the underlying logics of the city, using architecture to respond to spatial operations and environmental context rather than surface texture or visual style alone. Their work spans public buildings, private commissions, and art exhibitions, exploring architecture's potential as a medium of thought and perception. They approach architecture as the construction of ideas — pursuing research and inquiry through "discovery" rather than "invention," both in practice and in teaching. Through cross-disciplinary collaboration, they are committed to proposing design solutions with long-term relevance and contextual depth.
