On the Sea table
Norihiko Dan
This work is installed at the Driftwood Park on the western coast of Taoyuan City — a table facing the sea, named Hai-An (Sea Desk). At low tide, the reef rocks release their distinctive scent while schools of fish leap in the distance; clouds drift across the sky, waves break on shore, and the setting sun descends in the west — all shifting with the arrival of storms and surging winds. The seascape is in constant flux; no single moment ever lingers here or remains as it was.
Within this continuously changing nature, the work stands with quiet, composed presence — forming a counterpoint between the "movement" of the ocean and the "stillness" of the sea desk. People pause here, gaze outward, and sense the passage of time and the shifting of the environment. The work is not merely an object, but an interface with the site — transforming the everyday seascape into an artistic installation that can be perceived and experienced.
