Breathing Reef
KUEI-CHIH LEE
This work begins with the idea of an existing “field,” where form emerges through environment, time, and relationships rather than being predetermined. Creation is understood as a process unfolding over time.
The algal reef reflects this logic through its porous structure, shaped by the long interaction of water, life, and time. Its spaces allow flow, connection, and continual transformation. Inspired by these qualities, the work translates porosity, movement, and coexistence into a spatial experience.
The title “Breathing Reef” refers to the geological time embodied by the reef and the shared becoming of life, people, and place. Integrated with the viewing platform along the ecological corridor, the work transforms a structure for observation into a space that can be entered and experienced. Through movement and pause, visitors become part of the work’s unfolding in time.
